Diet affects your general health, but it can also have a big impact on your dental health and often just making a few simple changes to your eating habits can reduce damage to your teeth and gums. Acid erosion can pose a threat to your dental health.
Most people are aware that eating too many sweet foods will increase their risk of tooth decay and this is because every time you eat these types of foods your teeth are bathed in acid for up to an hour afterwards. This acid will erode your tooth enamel and increases the risk of cavities. While it is impossible for most of us to cut out these foods completely, choosing to include them as part of a main meal rather than as a snack will decrease the amount of time your teeth are exposed to acid. It is also better to avoid sugary or acidic drinks, including fruit juices, as these will have the same impact on your teeth.
Our friendly dental team are always more than happy to talk to you about your diet and can offer more personalised advice if required. We are located at 2/26 Benham St, Chisholm ACT 2905. You can contact us on (02) 6291 5533.
